Die 2. & 3. Bewertung kann man wohl als Hater (Silverrush über Te Amo: "Schei** auf Rihanna diese Schlampe) abtun, denn das Album ist wirklich große Klasse & absolut nicht mit Christinas Bionic zu vergleichen, da LOUD von Good Girl Gone Bad ein Fortschritt ist, wohingegen Bionic nach Stripped & BTB eher ein Rückschritt war.
LOUD kann man hingegen nicht als Fortschritt nach Rated R nennen, sondern eher auf einer Stufe. Quasi die "helle" Version vom dunklen Rated R, und trotzdem eine Mischung aus GGGB & Rated R. Rihanna & ihre Produzenten haben einfach ein experiment versucht, das geglückt ist, und das resultat ist ein weiteres Albumhighlight 2010, und in Rihannas Karriere, die wohl noch lange nicht am Höhepunkt angekommen ist.

Ganz einfach ein phänomenales Album!
Ich kann mich einfach nicht entscheiden, ob ich jetzt "GGGB" oder "Loud" besser finden soll. "Loud" hat den Vorzug, kein Füllmaterial wie "Say It" oder "Question Existing" zu enthalten. Die Balladen waren auf "GGGB" besser, die Dance-Tracks sind ziemlich ausgewogen. "Lemme Get That" gleicht sich mit "Raining Men" aus - beides geniale, rhythmische Hiphop-Songs. Ein großes Plus für "Loud" ist das ganz starke "Man Down", dafür hatte "GGGB" die Überflieger "Umbrella" (!) und "Breakin' Dishes" zu bieten.
"Loud" hat die besseren Features, die Cover gefallen mir beide. Mal sehen, ob ich "Loud" in drei Jahren immer noch so oft höre, wie ich heute "GGGB" höre.
edit: Obwohl ich "Loud" heute besser denn je finde, habe ich mich dennoch inzwischen für "Good Girl Gone Bad" entschieden, weil das einfach ein Mega-Album ist!

ein ganz nettes album, nach einmal durchhören bleibt vieles hängen, viel tönt jedoch gleich und nicht wirklich neu.
ich weiss nicht, wieso alle immer an rated r rumnörgeln, ich persönlich fand das bisher die beste und persönlichste platte der jungen sängerin und daran wird auch loud nichts ändern.
fazit: nette dance-platte mit einigen abstechern nach oben wie auch nach unten. knappe aber solide 5
update: so habe jetzt das album ein zweites mal durchgehört. leider habe ich bei mehreren songs weitergeschalten, bevor sie zu ende waren. runde auf eine 4 ab, da war mir der vorgänger meilenweit lieber.

Ich finde Rated R viiel besser als dieses only girl scheiss teil. Die schreit ja die halbe zeit etwas herum. Da ziehe ich doch bei weitem lieber bionic vor, obwohl stripped natürlich gelungener war. Aber zurück zur Schreitante: Vielleicht gebe ich ihr noch ne besser Note, aber bis jetzt finde ich es schlimm, die nervt mich genauso wie gaga.

Exzellent produziertes, abwechslungsreiches Album, dass man guten Gewissens zu ihren besten zählen kann. Ein paar Ausfälle wie "Man Down" oder "Raining Men" sind zwar auch hier zu vermelden, doch die guten Songs überwiegen und vorallem stimmlich weiß Rihanna diesmal zu überzeugen. Als Highlights wären die Single "Only Girl", der Gay-Disco-Feger "S&M" und das süße "Fading" zu nennen. 5 Punkte! |

Vor nicht mal einem Jahr ging gerade russian roulette gerade ein und aus. Mit vorfreude erwarteten wir das Album Rated R. Kurz Es war der Burner. Dann noch schnell das Remix Album auf den Markt geworfen. Sorry auch für mich ein Highlight.
Aber das reicht der jungen Dame von den Barbadoes noch nicht.
Auch jeztz liefert sie und ein BOMBEN Album ab. Es ist abwechslungsreicher und man merkt den Einfluss GAGAs auf den ganzen Musikmark. Aber daran kann man ja nichts kritisieren. Es man muss ja nicht immer alles neu erfinden=D

Rihanna is back...
Nachdem ihr letztes Album "Rated R" ziemlich floppte legt sie mit "Loud" - dem bereits 5. Album - bereits ein knappes Jahr später wieder nach. Nach düsterem Sound à la "Russian Roulette" sucht man hier jedoch vergebens; wie bereits oben beschrieben hat sich nun auch Rihanna dem Elektro-Sound wie Lady GaGa & Konsorten gewidmet, doch wie bei Christina Aguilera und Gabriella Cilmi will auch bei Rihanna der Funke nicht wirklich überspringen... trotzdem wird sie die #1 der Welt schnell erobern (und damit wohl auch Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" bereits nach wenigen Wochen von der US-#1 schieben...).
Wer "Only Girl (In The World)" toll fand, sollte sich doch eher zuerst einige Hörproben von "Loud" anhören, bevor gleich kaufen, denn kaum ein weitere Song kommt in dessen Gewand daher...
Fazit: Besser als "Rated R", doch kein Meilenstein der Musikgeschichte und ja, ich bin enttäuscht!

sie glänzt höchstens auf den zwei ruhigeren songs "fading" und "california king bed". die beiden singles finde ich mehr als langweilig, ganz zu schweigen von dem unnötigen "love the way you lie part 2", der fast gleich klingt wie teil 1.

Rihanna ist nach 1 Jahr schon wieder zurück mit einem neuen Album! Ich muss sagen, die Frau ist ein richtiger Workoholic.
Ihre neue Scheibe fängt "loud" an mit S&M, danach wird sie aber schnell ruhiger. Der einzige laute Song neben S&M ist nur noch Only Girl, den wir ja alle kennen.
Als Gesamtwerk gefällt mir Loud weniger als Rated R, das es einfach zusammengewürfelte Musik ist und einfach keinen roten Faden sichtbar ist.
Wenn ich die Songs einzeln bewerte, dann muss ich sagen das es eine Granate nach der anderen ist. Die Balladen sowie die schenlleren Songs sind hörenswert und super produziert.
Dafür würde ich 6* geben, aber 1* abzug gibt es halt wegen dem schlechten Albumkonzept. |

Komme auf einen Schnit von 3,90909... ich runde den mal ganz knapp auf. Das Album ist für mich ein so, schnell, schnell gemacht worden und das hört manchen Songs auch wirklich an.

Was a big disappointment following the great "Rated R". Rihanna continued the dark atmosphere of the previous album on "Loud" but the songs aren't strong enough to warrant numerous listens.
Highlights are Only Girl, California King Bed, Raining Men (helped a lot by the superb Nicki Minaj) and Love The Way You Lie, Pt II (but nowhere near as good as the original). |

Die Schnellschuss-Produktion ist zu Rihannas Markenzeichen geworden. Fast jedes Jahr gibt es ein neues Album von ihr.
In der Songwriteraufzählung ist mir ihr Name noch nicht aufgefallen.
Kein Wunder, dass es also so schnell gehen kann. 1000 gefühlte Songwriter u. Produzenten basteln die Songs zusammen, Rihanna steuert nur ihren Gesang dazu u. fertig ist das nächste Produkt.
Immerhin überzeugt meistens das Endergebnis. "Only Girl", "S&M", "What`s My Name?" u. "Cheers" gefallen mir sehr gut u. könnten Hits als Single werden.
Die meisten anderen Tracks auf "Loud" sind auch mindestens nett anzuhören.
Das Gesamtergebnis hätte besser geklungen jedoch, wäre in manchen Songs Rihannas Gesang nicht so schrecklich penetrant-gröhlend.
Die (Hit)-Schmiede rund um Rihanna läuft also munter u. geschickt weiter. Als wirkliche Künstlerin sehe ich den aktuell rothaarigen Schopf nicht an. |

Ich kenne von ihr sonst nur noch "GGGB", welches ich viel schwächer als "Loud" finde.
Es sticht zwar kein Song groß heraus, aber alles in allem ein solides, durchgegehend recht gutes Album.

Ben een matige Rihanna-fan, vind haar muziek prima, maar dit album is echt weer iets nieuws. Dit album zit gewoon vol met heerlijke singles, die stuk voor stuk verkopen. Only Girl In The World (najaar 2010) is goed. Whats My Name ? is ook super, en dan vervolgens koop ik het album eind 2010. En dan mijn toen favo track S&M. Hit! En toen in mei 2011 California King Bed. Redelijk. En toch was mijn favoriet vanaf het begin toch wel Man Down. Ik heb het nummer zelf gezongen op school, en dat werd goed ontvangen. Ik zong het nummer natuurlijk niets voor niets. En gelukkig komt het nummer nu ook hier NL op gang! Prima vijfde single van een super album dat je als popfan anno 2011 gewoon in huis moet hebben!

Now don't get me wrong, I have only heard 4 tracks from this album and I can instantly tell that this is her worst album in her career and one of the worst of 2010! This album absolutely reeks of attention and it shows just how stupid, untalented and slutty Rihanna is. You would expect music that is world class from someone who has made herself into one of the biggest artists of all time. Yet she just brings out an album full of pure crap that is only charting well because it is full of 'catchy' beats that people with no decent music taste like even though the album struggles to even reach a 'listenable' standard.
First of all, the album is called "Loud" which obviously shows just how ordinary yet attention seeking try-hard this chick is. When Cassie Davis released her debut single "Like It Loud" she was instantly named a "try-hard" for trying to be popular with the music audience. Here Rihanna is doing the same thing with such a ridiculous album title like that.
Her lead single is called "Only Girl (In The World)" and if you judge the song by the title you would think how stupid she is to write a song about being the Only Girl that ever existed. Who would to be the only girl in the world? Is she really that selfish and self-centred? Is she really so stupid to think that it would truly happen?
And then you listen to the actual song and it is just absolutely painful to listen to. She is yelling and screeching in the chorus and it can almost make your ears bleed. The whole song is supposedly 'catchy' but is just made of the same unoriginal beats that have already been used by other artists. This song is nowhere near as "amazing" as people make out to be. It is simply your average dance song, with the same beats, sounds and noises ruined by a massive scream-fest that is worse than Katy Perry's vocals on "Firework."
Her 2nd single is called "What's My Name?" WTF! What a stupid song concept! Everyone is smart enough to know their own name. Even the mentally retarded! How stupid can this chick be? And then you add an overused rapper, who barely has any success outside of the US and you have the biggest sleep-fest track of the year. Rihanna simply proves how childish and stupid her songs are by asking herself what her name is. Throughoutt the whole song she goes "Oh na na" 20 bloody times and the whole song is littered with random “wo-ooh-woah-ah-ohs” in the most ridiculous places where it doesn’t make sense. Who bothers singing stupid lyrics like "Oh na na" or “What’s My Name” so many times? The song also features extremely poor lyrics like "Cause your just my type, oh na na na na." Nobody but Rihanna would sing or write such a retarded and stupid song.
Now her 3rd single, “S&M” is the worst song of her career and I’ll go ahead and say it has a good chance of being the worst song of the past 10 years. If anyone knows what S&M is, you’ll be horrible disgusted that someone like Rihanna would sing such a song! Rihanna is one of the most well-known artist of all time and has a massive following and reputation. Now, she releases this song so lyrically disgusting you would literally want to vomit. How DARE she? Release something as sexually disgusting as this song? (Seriously, look up the lyrics). Here is the chorus:

Can you believe that? Here is the sluttiest and the most disgusting song that you will probably ever see and it’s set to hit #1 in Australia. It’s absolutely atrocious and I am appalled that people would buy such a thing.
Not only is it lyrically bad, her vocals again are bad (she sounds stupid, not slutty) and the whole song is based over ANOTHER cheap, overused beat that WE HAVE ALL HEARD BEFORE! When will this nightmare end?!
The final song I have heard from the album is Love The Way You Lie Part 2. I didn’t like the original but I do acknowledge that it’s a good song. Now, here they are making a Part 2. A part 2 is unnecessary! If Rihanna or her record company ever releases this, it is purely because they want money. Look at the success of Part 1! They are just trying to milk more money off the public by making them buy another version.
I actually heard in an interview that Rihanna said that she was very "happy" with the album because it was full of "Rihanna-only" tracks. She even mentioned how other artists with the likes of Katy Perry, Lady GaGa and Kesha (Yes, she actually mentioned them) usually release songs that are ordinary and nothing new:
"You know, I'm glad I made this album because it's full of songs that are, like, "Rihanna only" songs. Everyday you have artists like Katy Perry, Kesha or Lady Gaga and they just release ordinary pop songs that, like, anyone could sing. I wanted to release an album where only I could sing the songs and people would say, 'oh yeah, that song is by Rihanna' not just your ordinary pop song" (Not exact words, but along the same lines).
And actually, SHE'S RIGHT! This IS a Rihanna-only album, these songs are distinctively "Rihanna" and no other artist would actually sing these songs, BECAUSE THEY'RE SO HORRIBLE! Even Kesha is smart enough to NOT sing a song where the singer ASKS HER OWN NAME. Not even Lady GaGa is self-centered and arrogant enough to sing a song about being THE ONLY GIRL IN THE WORLD. Even Katy Perry wouldn't want to screech like that! Even artists like Britney are decent and have enough class to NOT sing about "S&M" even though "3" was pretty atrocious lyrically!
Summing up, this album is crap and it just brings Rihanna’s half-decent career to a new low with the most stupidest, screechiest and sluttiest songs of all time. The songs she has released is beyond terrible and doesn’t deserve to exist. The only good thing about it is that no other artists will ever copy this crap because, IT IS CRAP! If I ever get my hands on this CD, I will BURN IT! This is Pop music at its worst! Give me Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Kesha, Britney, Christina Aguilera or Fergie ANY DAY!
Thankfully, this won't reach #1 on the album chart and never will which just shows how meh her fans think of her. People only like her because of her singles and couldn't care less about her other album tracks which appear to be much much better. People only like Rihanna because she gives the people what they want, which just unfortunately has to be crap trashy cheap crap.

Amazing album from Rihanna! It's not as good as her "Good Girl Gone Bad" or "Rated R" efforts, but I do prefer it to her first two releases. Yes, I did greatly enjoy the more personal feel and slow R&B style of her last record, I do prefer her in the fun, colorful dance-pop style that this album has a nice proportion of, which she does a great job at.
"Only Girl (In the World)" is a great song. It has a really nice catchy beat and chorus, is very radio/mainstream friendly and fun lyrics, plus overall it just sounds like a smash. The label was right to release this as the first single, it fits in well with what I see as the main theme of the album and obviously succeeded massively, making number one in Australia, Austria, Belgium (Wallonia), Canada, overall Europe, France, Germany (downloads), Hungary, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Scotland, Slovakia, the UK, and multiple US charts including the Hot 100 and most importantly pop airplay. The video was really good too, while there wasn't all that much in it, the colors, the flowers and her camouflagic red hair all blended in well and made a great clip - and something especially different after the dark videos of her "Rated R" era. 10/10 for me!
Her second single, titled "What's My Name?" goes back a bit and pays tribute to her earlier releases. While it isn't the most pop friendly track she could've released, it has a really nice feel/flow to it, and gave her a massive hit to cater towards urban audiences in America. It's extremely catchy with those infectious "oh na na" and "oh oh oh" lines and of course would be the first pop hit in a long time to trigger responses relating to bananas. I'm not a fan of Drake's appearance in the song, however, it would probably be better without the math fail/sexual innuendo line, and he looks fucking horrible in the video - but he did help the song on its urban side, so I suppose I can't be too much against it. But anyway, ignoring his part, I really love the song, and while other than on some American charts, the only chart it made the top on was the UK's main chart, it made the top twenty in thirteen other countries - it's still a good hit, and has nothing do to with J.Lo. I'll give it a 9/10 - it hasn't gone as well as "Only Girl (In the World)" has with time.
"S&M," the third pop single, is another fun dance-pop based track, similar to "Only Girl (In the World)." While the lyrics about sadomasochism are not the most commercial friendly, it doesn't seem to have made any difference to the song's airplay or overall success so far, which is a semi-relief. As controversial as it is, I really love the video. She's portrayed the themes of the clip in a really fun, colorful way and I love all the 'little things,' i.e. the tabloid headlines, etc. hidden amongst the rest of the clip like clues. Oh, and being taped to the wall with plastic is pretty hot :P (insert strange emoticon). Should end up as a really big hit, gaining massively in America and already five weeks at number one in Australia. I like it, like it. 9.5/10.
"California King Bed" was recently announced as the fourth single. Now, while "Only Girl (In the World)" and "S&M" were upbeat electro-dance-pop, and "What's My Name?" was a more urban/R&B track, "California King Bed" is a predominantly guitar-driven downtempo ballad, which, while I don't think it's the best choice for a single, it definitely shows off a less-put out there side of Rihanna, and it's always nice to take a vacation away from the electro-pop trend. Lyrically, it's a pretty solid song, especially compared to some of her previous singles, and I think, with the right promotion and a decent video, it should manage to be a solid hit.
From the remaining eight songs, there is a large variety of styles, and several to-be-hits (as long as she doesn't rush release album number six). "Cheers (Drink to That)" is in more of a contemporary reggae style, similar to "What's My Name?" and her past work from other albums. I'm not sure about how this song's outcome would turn out, I feel it'll either be a Bionic-style flop or a massive long-lasting anthem, but I quite like it. Around seven to eight out of ten for me. "Man Down" is another highlight for me. While I don't think it would fare well as an individual release, I love it. It's a bit of a stepback to her previous album to me, which is nice, very fun and catchy, but not very radio friendly. 9/10. "Complicated" is a dance-pop song similar to "Only Girl" and "S&M" which I think could be massive when released. It's very catchy and has a really nice beat, which looking at "Only Girl" and "S&M," that kind of is enough to guarantee it a top ten placing. 9/10.
"Fading," "Raining Men" and "Skin" are nice songs, but don't really have too much hit potential, IMO. "Fading" just seems too slow and repetitive and a little boring, and while "Fading" is nice, it's just not the electro/dance pop style that most mainstream audiences are obsessed with at the moment. "Raining Men" is probably already ruled out for pop, since that was sent to urban radio not too long ago, but especially with the Nicki Minaj feature, I don't think that would do much anyway. Lastly, "Skin" is just repetitive and not so good.
The last song included on the record is a second part to Eminem's 2010 smash, "Love the Way You Lie." In this version, it covers the situation of the original song in more of a female perspective, and has most of the beats taken out, to be more of a softer, relaxed song. It features Eminem for one verse, I don't think much of his verse, but otherwise, I love Rihanna's vocals in the song, and personally prefer it to the original part one. That would score about an 8.5 for me.
Overall, I think it's an amazing album, which in the long run, will probably not stand up to her other albums and will end up being not so memorable, but nonetheless will end having produced several massive hits, and continuing Rihanna's amazing streak of hits. With the help of this album, she'll continue releasing amazing music, and as long as she doesn't outdo herself with her moderately-messed-up release schedule, could end up breaking some career longevity records.
I'll give this album a final score of 8.5 out of 10.

A peine un an après le demi-flop "Rated R" (à peu près 2 000 000 d'exemplaire vendus pour 8 000 000 de Good Girl Gone Bad en 2007...), la barbadienne Rihanna opère donc pour un "retour" énergique avec Loud, porté par le premier extrait "Only Girl" devenu un tube planétaire, ainsi que par les singles "What's My Name", "Raining Men" et le très controversé "S&M".
Vendu déjà à plus de 2 500 000 exemplaires dans le monde, Loud a été baptisé ainsi par Rihanna car "il contient plein de sonorités différentes".
Cet album s'ouvre donc avec le titre sadomasochiste S&M qui colle parfaitement aux dancefloors. Les Nanana ComeOn répétés tout le long de la chanson assurent un titre entêtant et qui a l'étoffe d'un tube mondial (malgré la grosse controverse actuelle du clip...). On poursuit avec encore un tube efficace, la chanson "What's My Name" avec le rappeur Drake. On retrouve les sonorités R&B qui nous ont fait connaitre Rihanna, un retour au source ne fait pas de mal. On enchaine ensuite avec l'efficace Cheers (futur single) et la ballade Fading entrainantes. On retrouve ensuite Rihanna plus explosive que jamais avec son tube Only Girl. Mais après ça qu'y a-t-il ? Bah, ça ressemble à un méli-mélo de vieilles démos repêchées par-ci par-là histoire de remplir l'album fait en 6 mois et pour qu'il ait une contenance plus ferme que l'on pourrait imaginer. En effet, après les 5 premières pistes, ça sonne le trouble et on affiche une grande déception. California King Bed sonne faux, Man Down est complètement raté, seul peut-être le duo avec Nicki Minaj pourrait relever la barre, mais ça s'écroule ensuite avec l'abominable Complicated qui reste selon moi un de ses titres les plus ratés de sa carrière. On passe ensuite à Skins ou une ambiance fade et plate règne pendant cinq longues minutes où l'on s'ennuie.
Néanmoins, après 5 satisfactions, puis 5 déceptions, Rihanna ne pouvait nous laisser finir son album sans ce magnifique duo avec Eminem qui est considéré comme la deuxième partie du tube de l'année 2010, Love The Way You Lie.
Au final, cet album est très varié, que ce soit dans le style musical (R&B, Electro, Hip Hop) mais également très hétérogène dans la qualité : on sent que l'album a été baclé et fait en quelques mois. Toutefois, certains titres valent vraiment le détour.
J'aimerais alors qu'elle prenne le temps pour son prochain album de faire quelque chose d'appliqué et de réussi, plutôt que cette mixture pas mauvaise qu'est Loud, mais qui ne peut empêcher de nous faire penser que cet album a été fait à la va-vite. Dommage !

Before I give this Album a review lets take a look at every track on it 1st.
S&M: THE WORST LYRICS I EVER HEARD. Then you have her talentless, horse humping sounding voice. I even saw 3 seconds of the video on an ad and those few seconds were FOUL. Seriously I bet while she sings this live she is having sex at the same time because thats what this track sounds like, her having sex. NOT MUSIC! The backing music actually isn't too bad but with her lyrics and vocals on it, it's truly SHIT! When you buy this you WANT to hear Rihanna having sex and the fact that this got to #1 means that all of the foolish majority of music buyers are horny teens and if your not a teen well then hang your head in shame!
Whats My Name?: The na na na's are annoyingly catchy but thats a bad thing, a very bad thing. Put simply this track is annoying and stupid. Next!
Cheers (Drink To That): Only heard 30 seconds of it but tells me her voice still sounds like a Whale getting oral sex from a shark. Whats next?
Fading: May end up being the best track on the Album even though I only heard 30 seconds of it. This actually passes as music with the piano in the background but vocals still need work.
Only Girl (In The World): Vocals again sound like Bowser getting butt sex from Mario. That ruins the whole thing and turns it into a vocal nightmare. Why does she have a contract. Oh thats right you don't need talent to be popular. My mistake.
California King Bed: WHAT!? This is a soft rock track. It's between this and Fading for best on the Album. Even her vocals don't sound as bad as usual and I have only heard 30 seconds. 2nd track on this that can actually be called music.
Man Down: WHAT CRAP LYRICS! (In just 30 seconds). Even without the lyrics this is boring.
Raining Men: YUCK! Both acts suck on this with their horrible voices. It's like 2 horses getting raped by 2 monkeys at the same time. Annoying music in this too and theres 3:14 of this I haven't heard yet!
Complicated: Backing music isn't bad but she won't win any prizes for vocal talent. I even went to Youtube to get a better opinion on this after sampling it and it only showed how bad the vocals get in this and is an overall meh. NEXT!
Skin: Not the worst track on the Album but it's boring and slutty. No interest in hearing the rest of this in full.
Love The Way You Lie Part 2: About the same quality as Part 1. Boring but one of the better tracks on this Album. After looking at the tracks I think the best on this Album is California King Bed followed by Fading and then this. The rest can get fucked.
Overall: This CD is pile of HORSE SHIT! You got a few decent tracks that could have been done far better by someone else and none of them are even singles. But the rest is a maggot infested, animal raped, shat on, vocal, lyrical, slutty, NIGHTMARE! The fact that this horrible cunt can have a record deal is stupid. She has zero talent. Nothing more then an average voiced woman. Record companys are stupid. It's ovious they don't care about what kids might hear with all the foul lyrics on this maggot infested CD. Lorsqu'on parle de Rihanna, on sait très bien que nouvel album signifie nouveau style ou nouveau look. Et celui-ci ne déroge pas à la règle. C'est les cheveux teintés en rouge que Rihanna a marqué les esprits avec son méga tube "Only Girl (In The World)", taillé pour les dancefloors. Le second extrait, "What's My Name?", a alors pris la relève dans un style R&B beaucoup plus représentatif de l'album (contrairement à l'opus précédent, "Rated R", plus sombre). La bombe dance "S&M" a ensuite convaincu les derniers hésitants. La promo du disque est irréprochable et le nom de Rihanna est sur toutes les lèvres. Car oui, elle s'impose systématiquement dans les charts internationaux, et elle le mérite !

It has been a while since I've heard most of the songs on this album, but the singles' omnipresence in the charts makes them hard to avoid. It serves appropriately that they are among the lowest quality on the album, (this is the first three at least, the 4th one seems to be one of the better tracks on the album).
I should start by saying that I've never been a fan. This will most likely not change over time, but I should acknowledge this just to be fair to anyone who questions my review score. Being a non-fan, it means that I never have high expectations, and thus can't ever be disappointed with what I get. That being said, the hype surrounding the first single, "Only Girl (In the World)" made it seem to have potential. Unfortunately this was met without reasonable explanation, as I found the song unappealing, with its bizarre concept and horrid vocals. Naturally it was a massive hit. This was followed by yet another mediocre song in "What's My Name" that continued all the things that were wrong with the previous single. I tired of it quickly and it was not remedied by numerous people insisting that it was a brilliant. Sure, they're fine to think that, but I just don't see it. Somewhere in the middle of this, I began to hear some of the album tracks. They ranged from the listenable yet average to the horrific. A general outlying problem I had was the vocals. The idea that we have singers that cannot sing truly baffles and worries me. It's a worrying sign for the future of popular music, which I admittedly can live with now, but in the future I'll have to deal with an increasing volume of opinions that some of this music is classic. It may be an upstep from whatever horrible state it ends up to be by then, but bad music is still bad music. This paragraph has been going for too long, I should probably start a new one.
There that's better. There's nothing uglier than ill thought out paragraph sizing. There's also probably nothing more irrelevant than talking about the consistency of the length of paragraphs when I'm supposed to be talking about music. I shall resume that. S&M is baaaaaaaaaaaaad. I mean really bad. There's so many things wrong with it that I don't know where to begin. Fortunately I've already reviewed it and it's probably best to see that for my collective thoughts on it.
As for another point I've hammered, release timing! One thing that ruins a lot of artists when releasing their (usually second) album is taking insufficient time after the previous album to do so, which results in a rushed album and quality suffers. This album was released approximately 12 months after the previous one, and based on what I know from that album so far, it definitely shows in this. There are no real ideas here, just a bunch of tracks slapped together and packaged and sold. The real kicker here is the inclusion of a continuation of an already massively popular song in "Love the Way You Lie". What this does is lure fans of that in just to get that one song, a strategy that angered many iTunes reviewers when they made it impossible to buy the song on its own in the US iTunes store. Sure, I don't ask albums to be a cohesive effort, but it's when something as egregious as that occurs that I start to question things.
To conclude, I found this to be subpar as both a collection of songs and as an album on the whole. A big disappointment as I occasionally find pop albums to be better than the singles suggest. |

It is not a bad album - a few very good hits, a few songs where Rihanna demonstrates she can really sing well , a few where she can sing in a Barbados accent, a few where she can sing loud and a few collaborations.
As my favourite Rihanna songs are Pon da Replay and Umbrella, none of the tracks on this CD are as good as those two. |
